This site is all that remains of the WickWire-Spencer Steel company, a complex that once spanned acres along the Niagara River. The mill had a relatively short life, opening in 1901 and closing in 1954. I stumbled across it on my way to another steel mill (Roblin Steel), and when I couldn't make it into the other I went back for it. While parts of the property are still in use for some sketchy purpose, the power plant has been left alone aside from abstesos storage. Heaps of the stuff were strewn across the floor. No worries though, there were plenty of other places to poke around. It's a beautiful place, though it doesn't seem like it will remain standing much longer.
