NF-17DC was the command center for a NIKE Missile Base in Niagara County. NIKE bases were designed to launch surface to air missiles against both enemy missiles and enemy planes in the 1950's. The central command center was surrounded by radar sites and missiles launch facilities, including the nearby Niagara Falls Air Force Base. The NIKE defense system quickly became obsolete by the end of the 1960's with the introduction of ICBM's that had multiple warheads no missile could hope to intercept. Oddly enough, NF-17DC remained in operation beyond the 1960's and was still guarded by the Air Force well into the 1980's. Reports from fellow explorers who infiltrated the area in the past make it clear the command center was being used for a new purpose... a secret one. Exploring NF17DC now, one gets the distinct impression that there is much more than meets the eye. Why would abandoned buildings have brand new electronic locks on them?
