Marine A is yet another abandoned grain elevator in the First Ward of Buffalo. I've been trying to get into this one for some time now. Although the elevator itself is derelict, it rests in a collection of grain elevators that are still operational. Marine A is a unique elevator, designed in a manner very much different from the others. One of the design features allows a person to walk right into the bottom of the silos themselves. I stood at the bottom of the massive concrete cylinder, the ceiling 160 feet above, wind howling across the vents making the most amazing noises. The echo in the cylinders is remarkable, stepping on a shard of glass created an echo like a shotgun. Marine A was only in use for 40 years, and has been abandoned for just as long. It may not be as large as Concrete Central or tall as Cargil A, but it is one of the best to explore.
