Flintkote is a very unusual and beautiful industrial complex nestled in an old part of Lockport. Walking onto the property you become isolated from the city by years upon years of overgrowth, leaving you to wander around the former asbestos factory unhindered. The buildings look ancient, built from sandstone and covered in ivy, strangely reminiscent of European architecture. Everyone remarked that it felt as though we walked in England somehow. Flintkote has been abandoned since the early 70's when asbestos fell out of favor. Recently discovered cancer clusters at the site have prompted an EPA investigation. Plans are underway to raze the entire complex and make it a park.
