| The Church of the Transfiguration was found by David of ForgottenDetroit while he was here for a BCT tour. He emailed me soon after exploring and asked for more information on the church. I had never heard of the church, but within hours I found him a great deal of info; and within a week I went myself. It truly is the most magnificent abandoned church I have ever seen. Many of the stained glass windows remain intact, though the church has been abandoned for more than 11 years. The church was built in 1897 to serve a growing Polish community is East Buffalo, and closed in 1993 because many families moved on as that part of Buffalo declined. The Church of the Transfiguration remains a glorious monument to the faith of its patrons, even if they have moved on. |
