What do You Love?
Monday, June 14th, 2010I have an aunt that made the decision to be a minister at the ripe old age of 4; she is now is a retired minister with many happy years of service. She is a proponent of finding out what you love and then figure out how to do that and get paid for it. I couldn’t agree more!
Three years ago a good friend of mine was trying to decide what to do with her life. Once she got this same information from another friend, she went on an exploratory journey and discovered what she loved and is months away of earning her degree in that field. She is also doing some freelance work and an internship and she eats, lives and breathes the very thing she loves and it’s a beautiful thing.
One of my best friends has a 3 year old son that is the same way about cars, trucks and literally anything that moves through the air, seas or over land. I have never seen anything like it as he calls out the make, model and name of every car and truck that drives by. He watches CD’s that show how to put a big rig together and how they make airplanes and such; he eats it up and never tires of cars. I think we all know what he loves and while no one would say that he is “called” into transportation, we are all waiting to see what he ends up doing. Whatever it is, I hope he loves it as much as he does those cars!
Maids in Small Houses are Not Likely
Tuesday, February 9th, 2010Have you ever seen a maid in a small house? Doing cleaning work for middle to lower class people? It doesn’t seem very likely because most people like that cannot afford a maid, but I’m sure there is another reason. This is what I think it is.
People who have maids generally have big houses. Those people usually have a lot of stuff for the maid to do and a lot of stuff for the maid to clean up. Now I’ll assume that people with small house don’t have maids. I’m sure that some people do but this is just a quick generalization. These poorer people have fewer rooms, with less stuff so when these rooms get messy they have only themselves to clean up all their junk. Now the richer people have options to just get up and move to a different room. And guess who cleans up the messy rooms; the maid of course.
It makes sense when you think about it. It’s a little goofy and stuff but when I grew up, Sunday morning was the big clean up time. We never had a maid so I never reall knew how it worked, but now that I have seen some of my friends houses and their maids, (or cleaning services) I can sort of figure out how it works and am waiting for the day that I can have one for my family.
Need Help Writing a Resume?
Monday, October 19th, 2009Are you one of the millions who are out looking for a job? That’s right, one of the millions of displaced workers in the current job market today competing with each other. The latest statistic is for every one job opening there are six people available to fill the job immediately. So how do you become the one they pick?
The first thing most employers will see is your resume along with hundreds, if not thousands of other resumes. The person in charge is normally not the first person that sees this piece of paper; it’s one of the people in human resources that has the job of sorting the resumes for the jobs as they come in. So the first thing you have to do is make it through the sort. More and more companies are also going to applicant tracking systems and you will need to have a resume that gets through these as well. Getting help with resumes is one thing, getting the correct help writing your resume is another. Take your time and make sure the help you are getting is coming from someone who has been on the other side. It could be the difference in you being chosen for the next job or not!
